The accommodation booked in Takayama was a 30-minute drive from the station. We first looked at catching a bus, however, realised that with the cost of two tickets and all the stops that would incur it was much more beneficial to catch a taxi.
Pension Good Luck—the name of our Bed and Breakfast styled accommodation—turned out to be in the outer part of town and was run by a family of mum/grandma, son, wife and 4-year-old son/grandson. The hospitality was warm and charming and included deliciously cooked breakfasts and dinners (the breakfast was part of the package but we had to request dinner).
We managed to get through conversations with neither of us knowing each other’s language and we were offered rides around the place. The rooms were comfortable and although the location was a little out of the way, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
