Flying out from Cairns to Japan, before our departure we spent 3 nights in Port Douglas (1 hour north of Cairns), a spot we hold dear to our hearts.
The Air BnB ‘Wayfarer’ was our place of sanctuary and it provided red-carpet treatment, embodied in a relaxing, refreshing atmosphere.
Wayfarer, located in Port Douglas is a stones-throw from Four Mile Beach and the town centre in Macrossan Street.
When walking up the stairs (swimming-pool side) to the apartment you are greeted by a balcony that offers immediate comforts from home, beach towels rolled-up ready to go, pool toys, featured artwork, a breakfast/tea table to enjoy an alfresco coffee in the morning or wine in the evening. Hammock, which resides near the main bedroom door for convenient access.
Upon entering, you are treated with exquisite bamboo flooring, a rich indigo coloured L shape settee with a scattering of cushions inviting you to relax and enjoy a movie with partner and family.
Handpicked artwork and carefully selected items throughout the house emphasise the charm of the place and the detailed taste of the owners.
Next comes the quaintly placed dining table and chairs that give the home a slight retro flair that is balanced out by exquisitely crafted light shades that create an array of shadows, lines and shapes that hang over a polished bamboo breakfast bench that leads into the kitchen. Supplied are all the appliances and cooking utensils you could need, these include a designer coffee machine, kettle and toaster that sit in place ready to use.
Open the kitchen cupboards and refrigerator and you will find a host of tasty local treats and essential ingredients to save you rushing out the door to grab. You will find Daintree Chai Tea, coffee, toasted coconut chips, chocolate, cereals, pasta, spices and herbs just to name a few. Teapots, strainers, percolators, quality cutlery, cups, mugs, picnic hampers, batteries, first aid kit the works! There is nothing missed.
Next the bathroom. Hanging plants, a sky light and a feature wall of painted rainforest bringing you into a tranquil setting that resembles nature. Handpicked local, eco friendly shampoos, conditioners, soaps and body gels allow you to truly let go of where you came from and appreciate where you are.
The main bedroom features perfect bedside tables with reading books and lamps that make you feel at home. The bed is absolutely divine and guarantees a good night’s sleep. Bedspreads, cushions, hanging artwork all say something authentic about the room and if you feel like some fresh air just step outside and relax in the hammock.
The second bedroom can be changed into twin beds or king bed. It offers the same detail in crafted items and artwork as the rest of the house. The bedroom can be complimented by toys that get the kids excited. Cots, baby gates and high chairs.
A home away from home in the heart of Port Douglas, we could not ask for a better way to pre-start our holiday to Japan.
